Summer Fun–Day 21

Here it is…..the LONGEST day of the year!

How did I use the extra daylight hours?  Well…..

I went and conquered a mountain on my bike.

I have been wanting to do the trail called Jacob’s Ladder.  It is kind of sketchy in parts on the way down, but I did it!  Amy Harmer and I both conquered some feats today on the mountain, which makes the ride that much sweeter.  Plus, you get a beautiful view from the top!IMG_1285IMG_1286

Looking towards Utah Lake……..…Looking towards the Southwest end of the Salt Lake Valley.

Amy Harmer and I.

I came home with lots of confidence and drive, so I decided to clean out the side driveway where we keep the Four Wheeler trailer and crap…I mean stuff.  you should have seen it before!  Pat myself on the back! I make this space look good!

IMG_1288

I still have lots of daylight left, so I will make the most of it by going shopping for some more cute material and grocery shopping.  Then home to work on more camp stuff and end the afternoon with a good book and nap while waiting for Mark to come home from the YM’s Duty to God Camp in Zion’s.

All in all…..it was a great longest day of the year!

Summer Fun – day 19 & 20

Day 19

A brisk walk never hurt anyone, right?!

Well, that’s what I did for my exercise….needed to do something.

Taught some sewing lessons….these girls are so funny and make teaching them fun. they made messenger bags which turned out so cute.  we accomplished a lot this week.

IMG_1277 IMG_1275

Spent the rest of the day doing…..you guessed it……laundry…..oh, and

camp stuff.

Mark left tonight for the ym’s duty to god camp down in Zions.

Got all the food planned for camp.

#mysummerfun #day19

Day 20

Got up early to ride…..of course, it was beautiful!

I am lucky to live in a place where I am so close to such beautiful nature and can enjoy it on my bike.

Made official lists for camp….started gathering stuff and checking it off the list.  that’s a good feeling!  i have delegated so much out that i don’t have a lot to gather.  if you think it is hard to delegate, let me set the record straight….it is the best thing ever and it gets more people involved and invested in whatever you are doing.

 IMG_1284

Went and had my toenails done with Shannon Reynolds.  I went with blue again.  I just love having my toenails done….never thought i would feel that way!

  IMG_1282

I went shopping for camp stuff and of course, i found some stuff for me!  Isn’t it so cute!

IMG_1281

Oh, i also found some cute fabric….i just had to get some for me and ashley!IMG_1283

I feel some skirt making coming on!

Did a few more things for camp….I am just so grateful for all those that are helping me.  I am very touched by it!

finished the day off with a pic of the mountains for ashley….so she won’t miss them so much!

IMG_1280

and last, but not least,  ending with a good book!

what an awesome, productive day!

Summer Fun – day 15 - 18

Day 15

I found this new program called Windows Live Writer.

I can type in it like I am using word and then publish it to my blog.  I can also add pictures, tables, maps, videos, etc. and use lots of different fonts…it is pretty cool!

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

I need to do a shout out to my dad, Mark’s dad, and to Mark!

Each one of these men are different and unique in their own way, but have been a major

influence in my life and our kids lives!  They are very good men, hard-working, honest, and love their wives and children.  I am grateful for each one of them!

#mysummerfun #day15

Day 16

Today was an early ride!

Later in the day I taught sewing lessons to Hailey Hendrickson and Raeya Wyness.

They made swimsuit cover-ups and they turned out cute!  It has been fun having a small class!

It is a lot easier to get things done that way.

Mark and I went on a ride that night, too.  We took a new trail, which turned out to be fun

and we learned about some more trails that we are going to have to try.

#mysummerfun #day16

Day 17

This is my temple day!  It is always great to go to the temple and work.

I helped Hailey and Raeya make a beach bag and wallet today.  They turned out really cute!

That night, Jesse Reynolds got set apart as an Missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of

Latter-day Saints.  He is going to be a great missionary!

#mysummerfun #day17

Day 18

Camp, Camp, and more Camp!  I have one week from today to get everything

ready and we will head off to camp!  I can’t believe it is already here.

I’m making lots of lists and checking them twice…..no naughty and all nice!

I have some awesome leaders to work with and some awesome girls to work with!

Everyone has been so willing to help.

Summer Fun – day 13 & 14

I really need to keep up on this each day, but at the end of the day

I am exhausted and/or I forget to blog about my summer fun.

So here I am blogging about a couple of days at a time.

Day 13

Bright and early, I went on……you guessed it……a bike ride!

It is so beautiful in the early morning hours.

I am so lucky to live in a place where trails are close;

I have good friends to ride with;

and it is beautiful!

That night we had the missionaries over for our 3rd lesson.

They have asked if we have thought of someone to invite to hear

the discussions.  I have been praying for a long time!

I did have someone come to mind, but I am a little nervous to ask

her.  I know that I should just turn it over to the Lord.  Why is being a missionary so scary?!

Day 14

We spent the morning in the Draper Temple with Jesse Reynolds

and his family.  He took out his endowments; gives his farewell speech on

Father’s Day; leaves for the MTC on June 18th.

We set up the roaming “Farewell Tent” at the Reynolds’ for the

open house.  (The tent will be traveling around the ward to other

missionary open house events)  Attended the open house….and….

snuck in a ride up the Quarry Trail with the Harmer’s afterwards!

All in all, it was a great day!

Summer Fun - Day 11 & 12

Day 11
Lately my days are filled with......
biking and girls camp prep!
I went on 2 bike rides yesterday which was my reward
before the work that I had to do on camp.
This picture depicts the result of my summer fun....
yes, ladies and gentlemen.....Bruises!
I get these bruises from my pedals hitting my shins!
But, oh, it's so worth it!

#mysummerfun #day11

Day 12
I have 13 days until YW's Girls Camp!
I have been working hard and I have been assigning things out
to people who are more capable and/or creative than I am.
I have the ideas and they make it come to fruition!
I love that we share our talents with each other
in the church!
(I'm sure others share their talents outside of the church, too.)
So.........
I made some reservations, made posters, handed off the trading cards to
Holly Hendrickson, sent emails, assigned devotionals, and on
and on.......I am almost done!  Yahoo!
I hope it is as fun as I think it will be!
posters

trading cards
(they turned out so cute!)

Summer Fun - day 6, 7, 8, 9, & 10

Okay......I am not very good at keeping up with this summer fun challenge!
Day 6
I can't remember what I did that was fun!
#mysummerfun #day6

Day 7
I worked in the garden....the other front garden....to get it matching the other one.
I worked hard and not it looks awesome....pretty, weed free, and clean!
Nothing says summer like a garden looking like this!

Mark and I also went to the temple with Taven Herd.  He took out his own endowments to get ready to go on his mission in a few weeks.

Mark had fun fixing the sprinkler valves in the back yard for the third time!
This time he designed his own valves, which probably will work a lot better than
the ones he tried from the store!

We then went on a quick ride up the quarry trail on our bikes.
It was beautiful!
I love riding through the trees and then smelling campfire!
I love the smell of campfire!
#mysummerfun #day7

Day 8
Well, this day was Sunday and all the fun I had was at church!
There were some great talks given which made me ponder
where I sit with the Lord and the gospel in my life.
Sometimes it seems daunting when I feel like there is so much for me
to change and work on in my life.  But, with the Lord's help, I can do it!

Day 9
This day was spent.........
riding my bike with great friends and great scenery!

Early morning rides up the quarry trail results in this kind of pictures.

I got good and bad news from the doctor about my finger.....
Bad news......I can't get in any pool, lake, etc. until mid July.  If I got bacteria in the
wound it could lead to an infection.  Which means I can't teach swimming lessons for a while, can't
swim, can't get in bear lake during camp, etc.  Kind of puts a damper on camp for me!
Good news......it is healing nicely.  In a couple of months there should be new skin
and it should grow back thick and hopefully look somewhat normal.
I came home and wondered what I was supposed to be learning from all of this and
what I am supposed to be doing this summer.  There must be a learning experience
in here somewhere!

I spent the rest of the day working on girls camp!
I got some things assigned out.....things printed up......people talked to.....
all forms passed out.......lots of willing helpers!
I am getting quite excited because it is coming together quite nicely!

Mark and I went on a .........yep, you guessed it.....bike ride!
This time we went to Corner Canyon.
I like Corner Canyon because you don't have to work so hard at riding over rocks like on the Quarry Trail.  I think I scared a guy, who came around a blind corner, more than he scared me.  I
am a little leery around blind corners after last years crash.
#mysummerfun #day9

Day 10
Today is my temple day!
The first half of my day goes quite fast because I am working in the temple.
Nothing says summer like a peaceful atmosphere serving others.
#mysummerfun #day10

I know this is not what Ashley had in mind when she gave me this summer fun challenge,
but some days are just very boring.  But this is the "real life" of me during the summer....
and all the other seasons of the year.
Carry on!
#mysummerfun!

Summer Fun - day 5

I love making things and having them turn out so cute!
Today, I made a swimsuit cover-up and a beach bag to go with it.
I like it so much I might have to make some more...maybe even one for me and Ash.
Shhhh.....that's a secret.....don't tell Ash.

Don't you agree?  So Cute!!
I made them for Jane Harmer's birthday which is on Saturday.

Mark and I went for a bike ride tonight, also.
It was a lot of fun and a perfect night.
We rode out in Corner Canyon.
I love mountain biking!
I love my new bike!
But most of all, I love Mark!!!

Adventures!!

The past couple of weeks have been filled with adventures for me....physically!
I think I have run into a streak of bad luck!

First, I started going to physical therapy for my back....I think it is an SI joint problem, which causes pain to shoot down the back of my leg.

Second, I had some gum surgery to do a gum graft...which meant that I couldn't ride my bike or swim for a few days....and yes, the weather was gorgeous during that time.

Third, while teaching sewing lessons to some 6 & 7 yr. olds, I cut a piece of my finger off on my left hand index finger.  It was quite the dramatic scene, but I held myself together (except for crying) so that I didn't scare the girls.  My finger was a gusher!!!  I made Amy Harmer go in the sewing room and get the piece of skin so that we could take it to the hospital with us and hope they could sew it back on.  They did sew it back on.  While I was in the bathroom with my finger in the water...thinking that would stop it from bleeding....Amy went in the sewing room to retrieve the girls and call their moms.  She walked in and they were saying a prayer for me.  Isn't that the sweetest thing!  And a child shall lead them.  I have never been so calm and not get sick or nauseated before...I think it was the faith of the little girls and their prayer that got me through it.  I had to get about 10 stitches and I was back to not riding my bike or swimming for a while. Ugh!  Well, I went to the doctor today after 11 days and he gave me the go ahead to ride. yay!

The pictures that I will post are of me in the hospital....I'm not sure if I should post the day 11 pic.....it's gross!

Hopefully I am done with this bad luck streak!

My summer fun!

The other night I was talking with Ashley and I said, "what am I going to do all summer without you?"  She answered, "you should do an Instagram picture of something you have done that is fun each day! Call it Jill's summer fun."  Well I am calling it "#mysummerfun".

I started it with a preview on May 31st....

Let the summer fun begin!
